"Naviy les" ("The forest of Nav") is my latest Slavic-mythology-inspired painting for the spooky season! Since the energies of the Celtic New Year or Samhain (commonly known as Halloween) are connected to the themes of death and ancestors, I thought I would focus on my Slavic heritage and introduce some of our "infamous" characters to you! The realm of" Nav" is believed to be the realm of dark spirits in Russian and Slavic mythologies, and "navkas" or "mavkas" are the dark spirits of both genders that dwell in forests. This original watercolour/gouache painting can be applied as a spooky decoration for Halloween/Samhain as a part of a witchy altar or a home.
